We’re already one month into 2021 and January seemed like a trial run. With a new year comes: new goals, challenges, manifestations and ventures. During this time of year many have the mindset to start anew. Although a reset may not be necessary, a new year can bring on a desire to switch things up.
Many people focus on dieting and losing weight at the beginning of the year. Although that’s great, if the intentions are healthy, there are other ways we can bring health into our lives.
Here’s five ways you can refresh your space and elevate your wellness this year.
1. Deep clean your refrigerator, cabinets and/or pantry.
Not only does this help for those of you wanting to eat better at the start of the year but it’s also a way to make room for new food items.
The main purpose of this is to get rid of anything that has gone bad or expired. Now while getting rid of these things also try to think about what items you feel you no longer want to eat and possible healthier alternatives.
Just because you formed the habit of buying certain things doesn’t mean that you can’t decide that you don’t want it anymore. This can be a way you can incorporate mindful eating. Sometimes you might have something that never gets finished for whatever reason and you start to question why you even bought it in the first place.

There’s one more thing that you should do before tossing things in the garbage.
2. Take a look at the ingredients of the food items that you have in your home.
This is important to start doing if you aren’t already. We need to be aware of what we’re putting into our bodies. In stores, packages are displayed with the front facing us. This attracts us with the label and convincing description, becomes easily recognizable and hides the nutritional facts.
You owe it to yourself to become educated about what you’re feeding yourself.
Before you throw those items away take a look at the ingredients with a curious mind. If you see an ingredient that you’re unsure of or can’t pronounce, look it up. There’s no reason to remain misinformed or completely negligent about what’s in the food you’re eating.
Be on the lookout for upcoming posts because we’re going to be discussing food labels more and finding healthier alternatives.
If you want to make a change this year and see/feel results pay attention to the food you’re eating. I cannot stress the importance of this enough, but I will continue to talk about it as much as possible.
The next thing on the list might require a green thumb.
3. Add some plants to your space.
It seems like 2020 created a lot of plant parents and this is a great thing. Plants not only add to the aesthetic of a space but they also have many benefits. Because they are known for purifying the air, plants can help with the overall air quality in your home. They are also good for your mood and giving off positive energy.
Taking care of plants brings on a sense of calm.
Before buying plants research the proper plant care needed to make sure your home will allow your plants to thrive. Also if you have any pets it’s best to make sure they are not poisonous to them. Plants are a commitment but also beautiful.
If you don’t want to deal with the necessary care of plants you can always buy flowers instead.
4. Get rid of anything that you are negatively attached to.
Year after year we accumulate things, but just like with anything, there needs to be a balance.
Over accumulating can lead to clutter which can lead to a less positive space. Are you holding onto anything that is triggering, brings up bad memories or no longer resonates with you? Get rid of it.
As we grow and change along our journeys it’s okay to let go of things, as well as people. We’re not required to hold onto what no longer serves us, in fact that would be completely counterproductive.
Getting rid of anything negative is a great way to cleanse your space. You only want the energy in your home to be positive and flowing.
This task might not be the easiest if you aren’t sure exactly what you’re looking for. Maybe you don’t actually hold onto things that don’t serve a purpose for you. Nonetheless this is your reminder to keep growing and outgrowing.
Last but not least, tip #5! This one is something we all need to be doing.
5. Disinfect items brought into your home.
The pandemic is still going on and our health is important. Spending more time indoors, especially in the colder months means it’s necessary to make sure things are clean around you.
Clean frequently touched surfaces and items brought into the home.
With these present circumstances we have to remain optimistic and are sure we are staying well.
With the start of this year feeling different than others, it’s important that we focus on our wellbeing. Finding ways to surround yourself with positivity is going to be key to your growth. This goes for any year! Take control of what you can control in your life that is going to aid in your betterment.
This new year is going to be filled with peace, prosperity and abundance. Let’s all affirm and claim it.
