Without a doubt, one of the best decisions that I have made when it comes to my overall health and well-being has been incorporating intermittent fasting into my life. I know there is a lot of talk about intermittent fasting these days and how it’s a fat burning “diet”, but to be honest, it has become a lifestyle for me.
My start to intermittent fasting happened unintentionally. Eating a full breakfast is just not my thing early in the morning and to be honest it can make me feel a bit nauseous when I have to quickly eat a meal before work at 8 o’clock. So because of that I usually don’t eat my first meal until it is time for my lunch break. Now, I do snack on my break before lunch sometimes and eat past the time when I should stop eating at night when I eat dinner late. That’s just to let you know that I don’t let it rule me and don’t take it to be a diet. I don’t overwhelm myself with intermittent fasting and listen to my body when I feel I need to eat.
After doing this for a short time I started to notice physical changes. I was losing fat without effort. I then decided to do a little bit of research and figured out that I was basically intermittent fasting, minus consuming calories with my tea and morning snack breaks. Fast forward to almost a year and I have never felt better. Not only has it helped me to lose weight it has inspired me to completely change my outlook and relationship with food.
From a kid I have always loved candy, or better yet; sugar. I honestly can’t remember the last time I‘ve bought candy now. Intermittent fasting completely eliminated my candy cravings which I was shocked about. I still have a little sweet tooth and do eat other sugary snacks but not nearly as much as before.
Since starting my intermittent fasting journey I now question my food choices. I stay clear from GMO foods and have increased the amount of fruits and vegetables that I eat. That along with no red meat or dairy has been a major game changer for me. My mindset is more vivid and I feel more energized throughout the day.
I now firsthand understand the meaning behind “you are what you eat.” Intermittent fasting has opened the door to me now having a clearer mind, and making better choices when it comes to my dietary consumption. I’m not trying to convince any of you to start intermittent fasting. I solely want to express my experience and appreciation for it. It has helped me to improve myself and I’m sure it has done the same for others as well.
*Disclaimer: If you decide that you want to try IF, definitely do your research first. There are different types of intermittent fasting so you want to make sure that your body is able to handle the length of fasting. If you have any health conditions you should consult with your healthcare provider first.
What we put into life is just as important as what we put into our bodies. Little changes can make for a better life. This approach does not only pertain to diet. Whenever you are not getting the results that you anticipated, you should make adjustments. I knew that what I was eating and how much I was eating no longer made me feel good and so I took the chance and tried something new.
